implant dentures and denture options with a dentist in Phoenix AZ

This tried and true treatment option is known for its historical importance and success. With current advances in technology, The Norterra Dentist can offer a range of denture options for our patients so that you can meet your goals of a healthy, beautiful smile!

Benefits of Dentures

While dentures may have a long history (as far back as 2500 BCE!), they certainly are a staple when it comes to dental care. Here are a few reasons why dentures have lasted so long:

  • They are effective and affordable.
  • Dentures provide a restored chewing surface.
  • They bring significant improvement to eating and speaking.
  • It’s a surgery-free option to restore the functionality of the mouth.
  • You can return to your original smile or craft an entirely new one!
  • They’re much more affordable than other restorative dental treatments.

Types of Dentures

We believe in the importance of empowering our patients with the right knowledge to make the best decision for their specific needs. To do so, we offer a variety of options for our dentures that are sure to exceed your expectations. The Norterra Dentist will help guide you through the right process to meet your goals.

Full, Removable Dentures

This is a complete, traditional option for our patients. Removable dentures are a prosthetic made of pink resin that fits exactly over existing gums.

The benefits of full removable dentures:

  • More affordable than other treatment options.
  • Covers a full arch of teeth.
  • Removable!

Partial Dentures

This is an option for those who just have a couple of missing teeth. This is also made of a color-matching acrylic but has only a few prosthetic teeth attached to fill missing gaps.

The benefits of partial dentures:

  • A surgery-free alternative.
  • Replace missing teeth without removing the rest.

Implant-Supported Dentures

This option is for someone looking for all the benefits of dentures without the limitations. It’s one of our favorite types of dentures. Instead of resting on the gum, they are anchored by a dental implant. At The Norterra Dentist, even our implant dentures are removable for your convenience!

The benefits of implant-supported dentures:

  • Sturdy, no embarrassing slippage moments.
  • Protects the gums and jawbone.
  • No fussing with adhesives.

How Long Do Dentures Last?

Even the most high-quality denture lasts between 5 and 10 years. Partial dentures last a bit longer than that, with a maximum of 15 years.
Some temporary dentures are only meant to last a few months, usually for those who have just had a removal and are waiting for their permanent dentures.

Implant-supported dentures last the longest. And even when you need to get the dentures replaced because of wear, the implants themselves should be good to go for a while longer!

How Should I Care for My Dentures?

Eventually, your dentures will need to be replaced but there are some things you can do to keep them in proper working order for years.

Clean them daily: Remove and rinse your dentures after meals and be sure to wash your mouth as well. This includes brushing your dentures as you would your teeth.

Soak them each night: Most dentures need to stay moist to maintain their shape. Follow the manufacturer’s care guide and rinse your dentures thoroughly before wearing them.

Visit The Norterra Dentist: Our dentist will give you personalized notes on how often you should visit to maintain the health of your dentures and your overall oral health.

Things You Should Avoid With Your Dentures:

Dentures are much like our own teeth and can be damaged in similar ways. Carefully handle your dentures and steer clear of these common mistakes:

  • Abrasive cleaning materials: Avoid stiff bristle brushes, strong cleaners, or harsh toothpastes. These not only scuff your dentures but can weaken them over time.
  • Whitening products: Toothpastes that are advertised as whitening treatments often contain peroxide, which doesn’t do well with dentures.
  • Bleaching products: Do not use any bleaching products. This not only weakens the denture but can also change their color.
  • Hot water: Acrylic can be shaped with heat, warping your dentures. Once they are warped, it is going to be nearly impossible to restore them.
